Can you crush a cricket unknown?

I'm concerned that we looked at the Black Caps win over Canada as an spectacular victory, rather than the simple win it was.

Now, Canada should never have been able to get to 249/9 chasing New Zealands 363/5. A win by 114 runs.

Good on Lou Vincent scored a ton...but against who? A country that normally does not rank in the top 20 ODI playing countries. Now if that was against the Paki's, Poms or Ozzies, I'd be relatively impressed. But against Canada? Come on guys. Then again, with Pakistan losing to Ireland, well, I don't really think that I may include the Paki's.

How can you talk about regaining form in a game like this. Compare apples with apples. The Black Caps by some miracle are ranked 3rd overall in ODI rankings over a team bearly ranked in the top 10 if at all.

How can our bowlers be proud of their effort.
Tuffey, 6 overs, no wickets, 40 runs including 3 extras.
Mason, 8 overs, 1 wicket, 60 runs???? (there is 100 right there in 14 overs).
Oram, 7 overs, no wickets but got only 16 runs scored against him. Impressive. Perhaps some wickets would have been nice but good bowling none the less.
Then there is Patel, awesome, 9.2 overs, 3 wickets for 25 runs. 2.68 economy rate.
While Vettori was good, being hammered for 57 runs, claiming 3 wickets is still 5.7 runs an over.

Big Mac was the only let down in our batting getting 10.

But I ask you. In calling this game a crushing...is it fair to compare our apple with Canada's mini banana? The next round will have less of these little teams and the real thing...The tests are still to come for the Black Caps.
