Issues of the day
What little time I already had for Green MP Sue Bradford was kind of burnt away last night as I drove home from a long day at work and listened to her babble about the rape protests last night and how she and the party were supporting the sentiments of the protestors, rather than the banners they were showing, like change the police rape culture, down with police rapists.
I don't know. Its like saying as one caller said on Radio Talkback, calling all women lesbians.
Now I am for one, not unsympathetic to the lack of some justice that raped people, men and women get and fair enough too. I think something needs to be done to ensure that more victims, real ones, not ones who play on the police calling rape when it was never so, get more of a fair show.
When it comes down to it, its the trial huh. If it goes that far, its on the jury to determine. So what if the jury says not guilty. In the case of Clinty the Commissioner, I personally feel he will be a stain on the police force if he gets his job back. I think the police have been tainted with this but in Bradfords statements last night, she was saying that all police are the same. Police took exception to that as I would in their situation.
A couple of years back when Te Wananga o Aotearoa was in the negative press, someone came up to me as I was in a Wananga shirt saying I was wasting tax payers money. I had to say to this gentleman, did he realise I was a tax payer too? I asked him how long he had lived in Te Awamutu and he said 23 years. When I asked him if he had ever been down there he said he hadn't. Now if I painted all of the area with the same brush, saying that all people in Te Awamutu shared the same ignorant view as that man the town would have rioted. As it was, he took a challenge to come down and take a look at what and whom he was painting.
I certainly feel that Scholum and Shipton got what they deserved. People in responsibility should set a higher example in what they expect those of us in lesser office to display. For example, as a person with a conviction, Sue Bradford cannot be a police officer, but she can be an MP. So, in essence, the police are more picky about those they recruit than those in public office. Whom do you trust more? Police or MP's?
I dont know though how you can justify, regardless of the issue the utter immature performances shown on the TV relating to the protests. Personally, I hope they find the people who burnt the efogey and the spray painter of the court house, and throw them in the slammer for some Time Out.
Oh thats right...that might be illegal soon too.
