My thoughts for today

You know sometimes its hard enough to get kids into school, let alone the principal sending them home for fees they probably didn't know they had to pay in the first place. So I say shame on you Mr Headmaster of Fielding High School.

Its kind of funny that the 3News reporter said that the fees were relating to take home components of classes, like chemicals for photography. So your students down there have their own dark rooms? Wow...as a former dark roomer myself, I know some of those chemicals can be quite expensive.

But those kids belong in school...not held out for fees that they incurred in their learning experience. What kind of experience is this school giving them by keeping them out of school?

And what about Cullen and his mortgage tax huh. Wasn't that move of his somewhat reminiscent of a Don Brash Flip-Flop? One day its the reserve banks best way to control the economy, (AKA, thicken the government coffers), and keep people out of buying their own homes.

You know, in looking to purchase my own home last year for the first time, I was amazed as to how much it was going to cost me. The house was 319K, the interest was at least nearly another $55-60,000, and also at least another $1,000 on top for legal expenses. What would this new tax cost me???

You know, you really get nothing for buying your own home from the government. I could go to Australia and automatically qualify for a large deposit for a house. So, what is the motivation to stay here. Well, that's easy. I'm not to fond of Australia as a potential place to set up shop. I'd rather head to the states.

Say Cully...next time you have a bright idea, make sure someone who knows what they are supposed to be saying says it, rather than your half pie, think I know what I'm on about because I've been in politics too long to remember why I started it in the first place kind of routine.

There are enough taxes that taxes themselves are taxed for most things. Just look at car registrations here. Got my reminder notice in the mail the other day. Of the $183.50 it would cost me for a 12 month registration, most of that is an ACC levy (tax), then there is another levy, (a tax), then there is GST which is in itself, a Tax. Petrol not only has GST, but there is a 5cent per litre tax ontop which is helping pay for Aucklands roading problems. 43% of the total cost of a litre of petrol at the pump is a tax of one form or another.

So, we don't need another one thank you Mr Cullen. Back to the drawning board.
