Just some random thoughts

I was listening to the radio news this morning when I heard an interesting statement from a Green MP who said the recent moves to enable the police to check for drug influence on drivers was not going to lower the road toll, but decreasing the legal limits would. Whats that going to do? Increase the number of DUI's on the road? Consider what I propose below.

Also, watching 3 News yesterday I saw that New Zealand drivers owe over $7.5 million in fines for varying things. Some paying it off at $45 a week and not showing any fear of the police. What about this thought? What if say, someone was defaulting in over $20,000 of fines and refused to pay them back, and racked up more. What if for every $200 was equal to a day's jail time. That would be 100 days jail. And also lost the instrument by which the fines were caused...ie their car, and licence. What about then imposing the loss of the licence...not only a confiscation, but a loss. A complete re-application process, going through the grades...learner, restricted and then full, doing defensive driving programmes all the way through...earning back the trust or the privilege of driving on roads.

Honestly, I wouldnt be opposed to increasing the licencing ages for driving.

While driving down Tuhikaramea road to and from Te Awamutu from time to time, I see drivers of Go Bus texting on cell phones. I sometimes do that too...yet...I'm not driving a 10 ton tank with a dozen people sitting on by vehicle. I know a car can kill...but a bus? what could that do to someone...something...and keep on going?

Like I said...just some random thoughts.
