My Olympic Thoughts
Now the hysteria has worn off I'm going to make some comments about what I thought of TVNZ's Olymipc coverage.
4/10.
I'm trying to figure out which New Zealander's were remotly interested in the bronze medal match of the ping-pong when on their non-free to air channels (Freeview channels I'm talking about), meaning you have to pay something before they are free to air, they were playing something really interesting. Live medal games like basketball, soccer, track and field.
The highlights packages played on channel 1 were remotely informative and it was interesting to note the stack of books on the commentators desk, especially when officianado Peter Williams was on. I like Peter, he and Paul Henry make my morning interesting when I watch Breakfast, but overall, my thoughts of Channel 1's performance on the only true free to air channel, was pretty slack.
I didn't enjoy the amount of commercials during the opening and closing ceremonies. I thought that was a bit much to tollerate. Granted the sponsors need to get their two cents worth in and promote themselves but please, is there something that could be commercial free, especially when the olympics are on. These are once in four years. Firstly the broadcasting was iffey at best, and the selection of programming was suited to a market of 50+'s who enjoy reminicing about ping-pong games, rather than something real.
Let's see if they can get it right, if they have the 2012 rights.
