Thoughts of today!!!
I'm going to say what everyone else is thinking. The fifth petrol price hike in 2 weeks. As soon as something happens on the global market in the up direction, up goes the price...but if something goes down...that's another story.
Todays 6c per litre price hike was blamed on "the rise on the increased international cost of refined petrol". So if that happened today...when are we going to be using the refined oil in our petrol? From today?
Sure, a weaker NZ dollar on the international market place also is going to make things more expensive too, but also, when are we going to be using that fuel purchased at a higher price?
Forgive me for stating the blindingly obvious. We're being milked. Petrol has risen 26 cents in 14 days and I guess this is something that has to be lived with as a dependent nation we are. Electric car proponents will undoubtedly use this as a method of pushing their message across. Go electric rather than fuel.
It will always be the way of things...especially with petrol prices. They will rise in record speeds and drop slower than a turtle in mating season.
Now for something completely different.
Is anyone really surprised by the latest comments from Fiji that self appointed Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama (affectionately known as Bananarama) has said that democratic polls are 10 years away. Surprise surprise.
A report from the New Zealand Herald says "He said the military was in talks with his ministers about changes to the constitution and that it would take the Electoral Commission about 15 months to prepare for an election once an electoral system was approved".
Some of this says that its a good idea and that he is making progress...at the same time...do we really think that in 10 years time he will step aside? I'm beginning to wonder if we are almost near to having the South Pacifics own Mugabe...less the genocide but with the bullying methods. Now we are seeing him comment on New Zealand declaring war. He is an idiot. Down right idiot.
Maybe we should coup him out and put someone we trust in there to do the right thing. Hey...if the USA can do it to Iraq hell we could do it to Fiji.
